Governor Noem Signs NRA-backed Constitutional Carry Bill

Now for some good news from the “other side.” Kudos to South Dakota! READ WHY

The National Rifle Association today applauded South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem for signing into law Senate Bill 47, NRA-backed legislation that fully recognizes the constitutional right of law-abiding gun owners to carry a concealed firearm.

“On behalf of the NRA’s five-million members, we would like to thank Governor Noem for her leadership on this critical issue,” said Chris W. Cox, Executive Director of the NRA-ILA. “This law is a common sense measure that allows law-abiding South Dakotans to exercise their fundamental right to self-protection in the manner that best suits their needs.”

This was the first bill Governor Noem signed into law.

South Dakota already recognizes the right to carry a firearm openly without a permit. Current law, however, requires a state-issued permit to carry that same firearm under a coat or in a bag. This new law simply extends the current open carry rule to concealed carry. Those who obtain permits will still enjoy the reciprocity agreements that South Dakota has with other states.

With this law, South Dakota joins Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming, New Hampshire and North Dakota as the fourteenth state that allows constitutional carry.

  1. Good job on getting the law passed for conceal and carry and enforcing the 2nd amendment. Now we need to convince other states, like Illinois and other states to adopt our constitutional rights.

  2. It’s too bad the nra is so choosy about just what 2nd Amendment rights they want to uphold. I hope gun owners never forget how the nra sold bump stock owners down the river. Of course, this is not the first time the nra has backed gun control and disguised it as defense of the 2nd Amendment. They’ve been doing it for a loooong time. We can thank the nra for the 1934 National Firearms Act, the 1968 Gun Control Act, the 1986 closing of the machine gun registry, the Brady Bill and it’s onerous and thoroughly unconstitutional “background check” provisions and the afore mentioned Trump bump stock ban, (how’s that for a President who ran as “pro-gun,” the first time he has the opportunity he backs the nra’s play and institutes gun control). Nope, I’ll never support the nra ever again. They’ve seen the last of my money or support. From now on, I’m backing GUN OWNERS OF AMERICA, they won’t ever compromise your rights away or stand idly by while your rights are taken from you by slick lawyers and greasy politicians. The nra sucks…………

  3. I agree with cleophus. I told the NRA ILA that my contributions over the last eight years were meant to keep my second amendment rights intact. Gun Owners of America gets my support now. They pledge to NEVER support anti-2A attempts.
I also have issues with Grover Norquist on the NRA board of directors
