This rise in firearm homicides comes despite the fact that Democrats, gun control groups, and the establishment media constantly claim that states with the strictest gun controls see lower rates of violence and death.

California has universal background checks, gun registration requirements, red flag laws (i.e., Gun Violence Restraining Orders), a ten-day waiting period for gun purchases, an “assault weapons” ban, a one-gun-per-month limit on handgun purchases, a minimum firearm purchase age of 21, a ban on campus carry, a “good cause” restriction for concealed carry permit issuance, and controls on the purchase of ammunition. The ammunition controls limit law-abiding Californians to buying ammunition from state-approved vendors–all of whom are in-state sellers–and adds a fee to any ammunition bought online, also requiring that ammunition to be shipped to a state-approved vendor for pickup.

Additionally, the state mandates gun free zones in businesses where alcohol is sold for on-site consumption. Therefore, the few concealed carry permit holders in the state must enter myriad restaurants without any means of self-defense. This provides a target-rich environment for attackers who want to be sure no one can shoot back when they strike. We last saw this on November 7, 2018, when an attacker opened fire with a handgun in the gun-free Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California.

Despite all the stringent gun controls a bill filed by Assemblyman Marc Levine (CA-D-10) admits California firearm homicides were up between from 2014 to 2016. The bill says, “Although California has the toughest gun laws in the nation, more effort is necessary to curtail gun violence. The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation found that from 2014 to 2016 gun homicides increased 18 percent.” In light of this gun control failure the language of the bill goes on to suggest more gun control.

    1. Reverse “F&F” ??? Isn’t that when Mexico smuggles Mexican-manufactured guns into the U.S. so Mexico can pass more ineffective anti-gun laws?

  1. More evidence that not being able to defend yourself can get you killed and that criminals do not obey laws.

  2. Its Not the Quantity of Guns , Its the Quality of Cali’s citizens thats the issue , No need to spell that out !

    1. I hope you realize that a very significant part of Cal population are not citizens, and a very significant part of the non-citizen population are not here legally. AND it is extremely easy for non-citizens and illegal aliens to register to vote and vote. I personally know of a legal resident and an illegal alien that had registered for vote, but I am pretty sure they did not vote. They didn’t even know they were registered until they got voting materials in the mail. This happened 20 years ago. It is even easier now for non-citizens to register and vote in Cal. Frankly, I think that is what Cal politicians want.

While those two didn’t vote, I would not be surprised at all if a significant number of people vote in Cal who are not legally permitted to vote. But we really can’t know the number.

      1. What has voting got to do with gun violence in Cali? The facts are very simple, You can’t regulate morality. Gun Control does not work! Desperate people take desperate measures, and many people are just deviant and desperate.
In another thread, I ask how did Cali citizen allow so many restrictions to guns? I understand that the majority of citizens live in 3 major city areas, and that they voted on gun restrictions because of the high crime in those metro areas. I get that, but it appears not to be working.
It doesn’t matter if the criminal is from Mexico or born in Compton, Beverly Hills, or San Fran. The facts are that you can’t legislate their actions. Only Law Abiding people, obey the law.

    2. You are probably correct. CALIF populations are a confused mess of people. From my perspective of a medical field practitioner I notice : 1. Families struggling with schools causing problems. 2. Family stress financial, marriages, commuting. 3. Street gangs , probation gangs, drug gangs, homeless gangs .
      4. Increased home break ins or violence.5. Increased anxiety prescriptions, constant opioid prescriptions. 6. Increased infections all categories. 7. Exstensive cross border traffic of families with medical problems like diabetes, psych related, maternity. When WROL FROM FINANCIAL WALLSTREET / BANKERS hits we really will explode here.

  3. Don’t blame the opioid prescriptions. The freaking politicians are treating those of us who receive legal prescriptions and do not abuse them just like the left treats gun owners. We are being restricted from using the one thing that relieves our pains from intransigent conditions. I was doing fine on 6, 10/325 hydrocodone pills a day. That’s 1/3 less than the CDC guidelines for maximum without stringent checking of the patient’s health. I’m down to 2 a day and it’s just about paralyzed me. It is no different than the restrictions on gun owners who obey the laws, even when the laws are CLEARLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL. I don’t have a constitutional right to prescription drugs no matter what the left says about “healthcare” but I certainly have a right to un-infringed gun ownership and carry. “…The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Doesn’t say anything about as long as they get a permit, or as long as they stay out of “gun free zones” or “as long as their gun wont old more than 10, or 5 or whatever number of rounds.
